The CFA’s Winter Warning campaign provides a range of different materials to CFA members to help them combat the seasonal issue of low temperatures on site. This includes the CFA Winter Warning Card, contains a thermometer strip which will indicate whether the temperature on site is appropriate for installing floor coverings.
As temperatures become colder this time of year, it is important to remember there are a number of issues which can be caused by working on a project which is inadequately heated. Firstly, cold conditions are uncomfortable and potentially unsafe for the floor layers working in such conditions. Secondly, floor coverings, adhesives and subfloor materials may not perform properly if temperatures fall below certain norms. This is detailed in British Standards and Section 2 of the latest CFA Guide to Contract Flooring.
The CFA Winter Warning Card and toolkit is designed to prepare members for managing adverse weather conditions. First launched in 2022, the campaign continues to be successful as a tool and guide for contractors working during colder seasons.
Following the success of the CFA Winter Warning Campaign, this year the CFA also launched the Clear Our Workspace campaign, aimed at contractor members to address another significant challenge – maintaining clear and accessible workspaces on multi-trade sites.
The Clear Our Workspace campaign, similarly featuring a resourceful toolkit to support CFA members, is not just about providing tools and guidelines; it is also about empowering members to make professional decisions. Central to this campaign is the CFA principle of the responsible ‘NO’. This principle supports flooring companies in making the tough decision to delay installation if site conditions are not suitable. By doing so, contractors can avoid the risk of floor failure, which ultimately benefits all parties involved.
Armed with this advice, CFA members are prepared to deliver the high level of service, installation and support that specifiers and main contractors require.
Both campaign toolkits and further information can be found in the CFA Members’ Area. If you are a contractor and are not already a member, sign up to benefit.
