The Floor Room, sister company of Carpetright, has collapsed into administration. This follows the news last month that Carpetright itself was going into administration.
The Floor Room had one store on London’s Tottenham Court Road and concessions in the 34 John Lewis & Partners stores, as well as an online business. It sold carpets, laminate and other types of flooring and has been forced to close its concessions in John Lewis with ‘immediate effect’, following the appointment of administrators.
The company was only founded last year and depended heavily on Carpetright for its operational and support services. The failure of The Floor Room is leading to the loss of nearly 200 jobs, following the 1,500 which were lost following Carpetright’s collapse.
Adam Seres, joint administrator at PwC, said The Floor Room had also been affected by a cyber attack on its sister brand in April. It had been unable to secure funding or find a buyer, following Carpetright’s collapse, and the company’s “financial position meant it was impossible for the business to continue trading”.
