On Tuesday 13th August, the CFA held an Annual General Meeting at Coombe Abbey near Coventry, appointing a new CFA President as well as the members to form the new CFA Council.
Alan McEwan (F Ball & Co Ltd) was elected to serve as CFA President, marking the start of a two-year tenure. On being elected, Alan says: ‘I am honoured to take up the role as President of the Contract Flooring Association. Having been involved for some time with the work of the CFA, it is a privilege to be elected to this prestigious position. I look forward to continuing to promote training, best practice and interests of our industry over the next two years. I would like to thank my fellow Council members for their support and mention our outgoing President, Carl Harper, who has done a fantastic job during his tenure in the position. I look forward to meeting colleagues and friends old and new over the coming months.’
To open the event, the CFA were delighted to welcome Keynote Speaker Iain McIlwee, CEO of Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS). Iain’s presentation on the day included a renewed focus on competence across the built environment, the CLC Installer Competence Programme, how a sector approach is helping to deliver change and what FIS are doing in the finishes and interiors sector. The subject of competence in the built environment for our sector is particularly significant and will continue to unfold over the coming year, as CFA aims to keep members up to date on.
Other appointed officers include Matthew Brown (Uzin Utz Uk Ltd) elected to the role of Vice-President, Louise Walters (Designer Contracts) commencing the second year of her tenure as Treasurer, and the outgoing CFA President Carl Harper (Westcotes Flooring Co Ltd) as Immediate Past President. They are joined by new and returning faces to the CFA Council: David Brady (RJM Flooring), Kevin Clinch (Consultant), Martin Cummins (Gerflor Flooring UK Ltd), Ross Dight (Tarkett Ltd), Alan Gayle (A G Flooring Ltd), Hamish MacGregor (MacGregor Flooring Company Ltd), Tony Mathé (Hillside Contracts Ltd), Nick Perkins (Loughton Contracts plc), Gary Scott (Hanson Plywood Ltd), Vicki Stiles (UltraFloor/Instarmac Group plc) and Jonathan Wells (J & S Flooring Ltd).
Prior to the AGM, Carl Harper had been presented with a gift in recognition of his excellent service over the last two years. The CFA would like to record its thanks to Carl for his support and work on behalf of the Association.
The CFA is grateful to all who applied to the limited CFA Council positions this year, and extend thanks also to all the members who have served on the Council in the last year.
Also concluded at the AGM was the approval of the year end accounts for 2023/2024 and minutes of the 2023 AGM. Clayton and Brewill of Nottingham were re-elected as auditors for the Association for a further year.
